The electrode holder connects to the welding cable and conducts the welding current to the electrode. Tolsen 44929 electrode holder is rated up to 500 amps and able to hold stick welding rod with diameter from 3/32 to 5/16 inch (2.5-8mm).  The insulated handle is used to guide, feed the electrode over the weld joint into the weld puddle as it is consumed.
